130 million students within reach as Mecenat expands
Gothenburg based Mecenat has been the number one student discount supplier in Sweden for many years. But the company has the ability to reach more than 130 million verified students globally, and a new phase in it’s expansion just started: During May, Mecenat have entered Spain and Poland and in July Portugal.
Most Swedish student know about and use student discounts regularly. Close to a million Swedish students get access to Mecenat’s discounts each year and polls show that 97 percent of students in Sweden are familiar with the Mecenat brand.
In this aspect, Sweden is one of a kind. There are not many countries where students take advantage of student discounts with the same frequency. In the last month alone, almost 70 000 purchases were made with student discounts on the Mecenat website, not including purchases in physical stores. Now, Mecenat wants to make this opportunity to save money available to students in more countries.
Since earlier, Mecenat is present on several Nordic markets. The next step was Spain, where a pilot project last winter covered two universities.
– The Spanish pilot was very successful. This has strengthened our perception that our concept is viable. Now we go ahead in full scale, says Jonas Levin, CEO at Mecenat AB.
The student discounts will be made available through Mecenat’s sites for desktop and mobile, which are being adapted to each market and launched broadly.
Mecenat can securely verify more than 130 million students all over the world. Validating that a person is actually a student is one of the key factors making the system interesting for discount providers. Another key is Mecenat’s extensive experience of relevant and successful student communication. Many brands are looking for strong relationships with individuals who are in a phase of building their brand preference, and can appreciate the great opportunity to a long and prosperous relationship.
– We already have longstanding partnerships with a great number of global brands who will join us on our journey onto new markets. Their student discounts make student’s everyday lives easier and creates engagement in the student group, says Jonas Levin.
The launch on the Spanish market was made on the 15th of May and Poland the 22nd. Portugal will follow in early July and more markets are planned for, in the autumn.
