Mecenat exchange insights with Hotels.com
Hotels.com is a key partner to Mecenat – their biggest in Scandinavia – with attractive offers for students with a Mecenat card. Our joint meeting makes it possible for us to make the offers going forward even sharper. Among other things we used their report HPI – Hotel price index – that gives us data about how and where their customers chose to stay during the previous year.
The report offers a good foundation to make conclusions about travellers in general but also the opportunity to compare behaviors and habits of different customer categories.
After going through just some of the numbers it's easy to make several valuable conclusions , among other things we learn that Asia has the lowest average cost for a hotel room in the world, giving the travelers most for their money.
Both Phuket & Koh Phangan in Thailand had an 8 % decrease in the average room price last year. Phuket is a top 5 destination for Swedish backpackers, but the destinations ranking 1-4 on that list did not decrease in price, which tells us that this group does not just look at the price tag when booking their hotel rooms.
These numbers are directly comparable with Mecenats knowledge about the student group. Even if the student group is generally more price sensitive, more things matter when making a purchase than just price. For example, it needs to be the right brand or product, or in this case, the right destination
